About Wild SitRep
Wild SitRep is the tool I wanted to check before doing anything outdoors.
At its core, Wild SitRep is built to answer one question every morning: what is happening outside right now, and what is today’s best plan of action? Most of the time, that starts with fishing. But the real purpose is bigger than that. I wanted one place to check each morning that could keep me connected to what is happening in the wild, even when life gets busy.
I’m an IT professional by trade, and I’ve always had a deep love of fishing, hunting, foraging, camping, and the outdoors in general. Like a lot of people, I know how easy it is to miss the moments that matter when life gets crowded. A migration starts. A hatch turns on. River conditions shift. The first peepers begin calling. Woodcock start their evening sky dance. A narrow feeding window opens and closes before you even realize it was there.
Wild SitRep exists because I got tired of trying to piece that picture together from too many different places.
River gauges are in one tab. Weather is somewhere else. Stocking reports, solunar tables, seasonal timing, ecological signals, and field observations all live in separate places. I wanted a system that could pull those signals together and turn them into something practical — something I would actually want to read first thing in the morning before I did anything else.
Right now, Wild SitRep is focused on the Connecticut River Valley. That is intentional. The goal is to build the rhythm here first, make it useful here first, and earn the right to expand later.
The system draws from real environmental inputs, including:
- river gauges
- water height
- flow rate (CFS)
- weather patterns
- barometric pressure
- solunar tables
- seasonal timing
- regional ecological signals
- historical context
Those signals are used to build a daily picture of conditions and opportunity. The goal is not hype, and it is not guesswork. Wild SitRep does not promise catches or perfect days. It reports conditions, timing, patterns, and probabilities — the kind of information that helps you decide where to focus, what to expect, and what is worth paying attention to before you step outside.
That is what makes Wild SitRep different from a generic fishing blog or weather app.
It is built to be practical.
It is built around real signals.
It is built for the Connecticut River Valley.
And it is built around the question I care about most every morning:
What is happening outside today that I should not miss?
Sometimes that means striped bass or shad moving up the Connecticut River. Sometimes it means a short walleye window at first light. Sometimes it means morels, fiddleheads, spring peepers, woodcock, osprey, or another seasonal event that reminds you the natural world is moving whether you are paying attention or not.
Wild SitRep is my way of paying attention.
And if it does its job well, it helps other people do the same.
What you’ll find here
Fishing is the center of Wild SitRep, but it is not the whole picture.
This site is being built to include:
- daily and weekly fishing intelligence
- condition scoring and timing windows
- species outlooks
- seasonal and ecological context
- field-to-table articles
- field-to-table recipes built around simple, real ingredients
- foraging and restoration content that helps connect people more deeply to the landscape
Over time, I’ll be bringing over and building on the kinds of articles that matter to me most — pieces on seasonal foods like ramps, recipes worth actually cooking, and stories tied to the restoration and long-term health of places like the Connecticut River itself.
A note on trust
Wild SitRep is built around real environmental data and structured interpretation. AI helps turn those signals into readable reports, but it is not the source of truth. The goal is not content for content’s sake. The goal is useful outdoor intelligence that helps people make better decisions, notice more, and stay grounded in the natural world around them.
Where it’s going
The focus right now is the Connecticut River Valley. That is where Wild SitRep is being built and refined first. Once the process is solid and the rhythm is right, it can expand outward.
